This work emanated from a media image of cows that had died during a period of severe flooding in the Gulf of Carpentaria in 2019. Half a million cows as well as numerous uncounted native animals were sacrificed in the extreme weather that is increasingly occurring as a result of anthropogenically induced climate change. The region continues to experience floods and as such to witness these continued deaths. The artwork evokes the rights of these sentient beings, a product of colonisation, which have over the centuries become symbolically recognised as part of the Australian landscape.
